“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” – African proverb

As 2021 comes to an end, I’m very excited to welcome yet another new year. You’d think, having done this some 60-plus times before, it would begin to look a little same-same.

Thankfully, with each new year we all get a chance to start fresh… the beginning of new promises, resolutions, and life decisions. It is this time of the year when we all can let go of old disputes and fights and focus on mending all our fences for the new year to come.

Hard to imagine where we are as we make this move from 2021 to 2022… In a little more than a decade, this great nation suffered the biggest two economic crises since the Great Depression, the worst pandemic in more than a century and the election of two presidents not just unlike any before them, but as diametrically unlike each other as we’ve ever witnessed.

If there is a single lesson, we might take away from all this it is that change can happen more quickly than we ever imagined, which makes it even more important that we lean into being a positive force for change and good.

It is my hope and prayer that after a miserable year-and-a-half, alternating between lockdowns and new outbreaks, life will finally begin returning to normal. But it will not be the old normal. 2022 will be the year we finally settle into a post-pandemic new normal… a new world, with a reshaped economy, much as war and depression reordered life for previous generations.

And while I believe we will see a rough start to the year, I do believe that all-in-all, 2022 will be the year where the coronavirus has at long last been defeated – or at least become another in the list of medical risks we manage.

2022 promises to be yet another year in which we will fight hard fights and hopefully win great victories. And let’s be certain — the greatest victories are the ones we win together. We have come far, but we have a long way to go. And in 2022 we may well decide just what kind of a nation we are going to be going forward.

I’m looking forward to spending more time engaging with all of you in my role as a Servant Leader for Working People. It is the best, most rewarding work I’ve ever done. I am both humbled and honored to be working with each of you and fighting to make this place where we all live, love, work, play, pray, and learn a better place for all of us.

So, as the proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together” Let’s go far together in 2022. I am ready to take the journey with you.

Let’s begin.

Happy New Year!
